Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative centre of the Kamchatka region, one of the oldest cities of the Far East with a population of about 200 thousand, is located on the Kamchatka pininsula on the seashore of the Pacific ocean. The city was founded in 1740 as Petropavlovsky Ostrog, since 1822 was known as Petropavlovsky Port and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – since 1924. There are the Drama Theatre and the Museum of Local Lore in the city.
