Cherepovets, a centre of the Cherepovets district in the Vologda region, is located on the bank of the Volga river. It was founded in 1777 at confluence of the Sheksna and Yagorba rivers on a place of the former Voskresensky Monastery. The present Cherepovets is a large centre of ferrous metallurgy with a population of 320 thousand. The main places of interest are the Voskresensky Cathedral (1752), the Mountain Museum, the Vereschaginy Museum, the Museum of Local Lore.
