Tobolsk, city from 1590, is located in the centre of Western Siberia. It was founded in 1587. Tobolsk was one of the largest cities of Russian Empire in 17-18th centuries. The stone-building in Tobolsk was the first in Siberia. The only Kremlin in Siberia, the Sofiysky Cathedral, the temples and the merchant private residences of Tobolsk are architectural monuments. Tobolsk has been the cultural centre of Siberia for a long time. The first monastery of Siberia was built in Tobolsk. Tobolsk is a port on the Irtysh river.
